Opportunities In Uncertain Times
IS IT SAFER IN THE BANK?
I dont know, trying to understand what is happening in the financial markets is like backing the winner of a "bum kicking contest" where both contestants have only one leg! I am not making light of the situation. Uncontrolled greed has caused millions of hard working people see their "nest eggs" shrink to a pittance.
However, I am sure that you have all heard the saying "every cloud has a silver lining". In today's uncertain economic climate there are still opportunities where the "astute business person" can maximise their returns from their business.
Expect increased product costs in the immediate and mid term because:
- Overseas suppliers are selling less and getting less for their products due to the world financial crisis and will be forced to increase prices.
- Raw materials such as plastics, toners and oil based ink and toner substrates have already seen increased prices and there is more to come.
- Local wholesalers will have to pay substantially more for imported product.
- Transport charges have increased due to the US$, oil prices and levies.
- World trade has shrunk therefore transport options have decreased due to providers like the shipping companies reduced sailings which means fewer ships which results in higher charges for preferential treatment.
Q. What does it all mean?
A. Substantial increases in landed costs for all products.
Q. Where's the "silver lining"?
A1. GOOD NEWS. OEM's will be forced to increase their prices which is great news for remanufacturers of inkjet and laser cartridges. Customers will certainly start looking for viable alternative options. There is a case for the remanufacturer/retailer to increase prices. Even though the prices for remanufacturers raw materials will increase the case for local remanufacturing has never been stronger. The price differential between locally remanufactured cartridges and imported OEM should be substantial as the A$ (if the pundits are to be believed) is not expected to go over $0.70 in 2009. If the RBA reduces the money rate by a further 200 points the A$ will trade even lower than it is today which means even further price hikes on imported goods.
A2. GOOD NEWS. Astute operators will be buying as much stock as they can afford to from their suppliers right now because they know that as soon as a supplier's inventory runs out, his next overseas shipment's landed costs could be substantially increased by as much as 20-30%! From a trading perspective the "astute operator" that takes action now stands to gain as much as 20-30% increases to his future bottom line! Beats hiding it under the mattress or betting on a bum kicking contest!
In these uncertain times there are not too many opportunities to make sound investments (in a business that you know and control) that give such substantial additional returns.

New Release : Ausjet Benchtop Centrifuge
New Product Release
Ausjet Benchtop Centrifuge
Only $985.00 ex' GST
Limited quantity in stock
Small Benchtop Unit
The Ausjet centrifuge is of a compact design and is one of the smallest centrifuges we have seen. The dimensions are only 32x32x24cms and it weighs only 8.6kgs easily fitting on a workbench. This is a very small compact unit especially when you compare against other centrifuges we have seen which are based on domestic spin drying machine technology.
Quiet and Stable Operation
The Ausjet benchtop centrifuge is quiet and stable enough to be used on your workbench.
Empty your ink cartridges before filling
This compact centrifuge works by spinning the ink cartridges on an axis. This generates enough centrifugal force for the ink to be dispelled out of the cartridge and emptied.
Prime your ink cartridges
The manual control button allows you to spin the centrifuge for a short time, 2-4 seconds is enough to prime an inkjet cartridge.
Universal Cradles
The centrifuge will fit any two cartridges and features a universal cradle. No need to change different cradles for different cartridges.
Recover colour cross-contaminated cartridges
Cross contaminated cartridges are notoriously hard to clean and recover. By filling the cartridge with headcleaning solution and then emptying the cartridge better success will be achieved.
Thoroughly clean the inside of the inkjet Cartridge
To ensure the ink cartridge is filled with only 100% Sensient ink the inside of the cartridge needs to be cleaned before filling. The same procedure as recovering the cross contaminated cartridge is used. By using the centrifuge in this way you effectively clean the following parts - foam, filter, prechamber, printhead channels and the nozzle area.

Information on Canon PG-521 \ CL-521 Cartridges
We have been testing an IP4600 for 3-4 weeks now. This is one of the new range of Canon printers available that uses the new Pgi-520\Cli-521 individual ink tanks. The cartridges are essentially the same to fill as the Pgi-5\Cli-8 cartridge but a little smaller. The new cartridges include a new chip and can't be reset at the moment. But the cartridges can be refilled and used by disabling the cartridge ink level. Disabling the ink level on the cartridge is the same procedure as earlier model printers - holding the resume button for 5 seconds will allow the refilled cartridge to work.

Ausjet Centrifuge Has Arrived!
The Ausjet Centrifuge works by spinning the cartridges quickly on an axis at a certain RPM which forces the ink out, this motion is called centrifugal force. The advantage of emptying a cartridge before filling is to remove as much of the previous ink as possible. By removing as much of the previous ink we produce a more pure product, nobody is 100% sure how previous ink in a cartridge can affect the quality of the remanufactured product over time. But it’s a extra factor that may contribute to some unusual faults.
The Ausjet centrifuge has a built in manual control which is perfect for priming cartridges. The best way to understand priming is to think of it this way. After filling a cartridge the ink normally remains in the foam/sponge, to get the cartridge working correctly the ink also has to fill the prechamber(beyond the filter) and also the printhead channels and nozzle area. A quick few seconds of the centrifuge is all thats required to prime a cartridge.
The Centrifuge is also very effective at cleaning the foam, prechamber, filter and nozzle area of the cartridge. This is best achieved by filling the cartridge with cleaning fluid or distilled water and then emptying the cartridge. This is brilliant for recovering colour contaminated cartridges.

New Canon Printers And Ink Cartridges
A new range of Canon printers with new cartridges with be available in Australia soon.
The IP3600 & IP4600 which will replace the IP3500/IP4500 includes new individual ink tanks. From viewing photos the cartridges look similar in design to the existing Pgi-5 & Cli-8 cartridges. We are not aware at the moment until we get our hands on the cartridges what the situation will be regarding the chip technology. The cartridge numbers will also be regional as they are different between Europe and the US. But expect to see (for example) numbers like Pg-220 and CL-221.
There are also a new range of low cost printers & MFPs that will feature the replacement for the PG37 & CL38 combination. Again these are new cartridges and look the same basic design as existing models.
Chip On Compatible Pgi-5 & Cli-8 Cartridges Unable To Be Reset
It seems that everybody was saying this chip could be reset with the portable red resetter. We put the question forward to various parties including the chip manufacturer and cartridge manufacturers, they all agreed the chip could be reset. We then tested the chips on the resetters and yes the light stayed on indicating the cartridge is reset - the cartridges were then tested in a printer and did work. But the reality is that this chip can't be reset.
HP02 LightFast Inks
The Photosmart range of printers are designed for printing photographs so why not offer a Lightfast ink for your customers. At Ausjet we are pleased to give you the option of two Sensient inksets for these cartridges, our normal premium quality ink or our new Lightfast inkset. These Lightfast inks are perfect for discerning customers who would like to have a more permanent photo print with lightfast qualities.
New HP Individual Ink Cartridges
HP has recently presented a new range of photosmart printers that feature individual ink tanks. By viewing photos of the new HP564 (US numbers), the new cartridges look very similar in design to current Epson model cartridges. There is no word at the moment if these cartridges will feature smart chip technology.
I hope this information has been helpful to you.
