The Ausjet Professional Colour Series PGI-650XL/CLI-651XL cartridge series are now in stock.

Unlike most other aftermarket PGI-650XL black cartridges ours contain a high grade black pigment ink for sharp, dark and clear printing. The other advantage of the pigment black ink is that it has a high resistance to smudging on the page and is waterfast and UV resistant (like the OEM),

The CLI-651XL cartridges contain a bright, vibrant dye ink which is an excellent colour match to the OEM. The quality of the german based colourant inside these cartridges ensures a good quality print with the colours your customers expect.

All the above cartridges contain the newly released chip which ensures that these cartridges will be compatible with existing printer models and that correct ink levels will be displayed.

HP Officejet Pro-X Released in Australia

In previous technical bulletins we mentioned the exciting new inkjet pagewide printers that HP was bringing to market. This technology advance allows these printers to have world leading desktop printer speeds. This is due to the fact that the printhead is the whole width of the paper which means the paper is the only part that moves.

With many new advances in technology we are not always sure as to know whether the product will actually make it to market. The good news is that the Officejet Pro-X series printers are available now in Australia. Prices starting from RRP $599.00 for the printer and $799.00 for the multifuction units. Cost per copy has been touted at much lower than laser.

More information can be found at the HP website :

Differences between Firmware Versions and Printer Drivers

I'm sure everybody is aware that firmware changes over the last few years have caused many problems for aftermarket chip manufacturers. It's the bugbear in our industry, the one where we all look like we have egg on our face.

The dreaded return of a cartridge due to an incompatible chip and firmware version is not the best feeling. I often think I'm an extra from Star Trek as quite often I'm thinking to myself 'that's not logical'. I can tell you I'm not Vulcan but all these firmware updates and changes to cartridge designs is making me feel a little green at times.

For those not familiar with the term firmware it is essentially the software inside the printer. This differs from the 'printer driver' which is the software installed on your computer that sends the information to the printer.

Firmware updates can happen automatically or need to be manually downloaded depending on the printer brand and the printer drivers settings. Generally speaking we would recommend instructing your customer not to download any firmware updates unless they are experiencing some sort of issues with their machine.

The reason we recommend this is that firmware updates have caused some aftermarket chips to stop working. One moment the cartridge is working the next moment after the update the cartridge goes "belly up" and is about as useful as a boat anchor. There was a case a few years back where an automatic firmware update prevented thousands of customers in another country from printing. This is an extreme case but it just shows you the possible effects we all face from updates etc.

Luckily this firmware issue is only a problem with a few cartridge models at this time. The majority of the cartridges in our market are problem free.

Aftermarket Samsung MLT-D101 Cartridge.

I'm not aware of any aftermarket chip manufacturers claiming they manufacture a chip compatible with all printer firmware versions assocated with this cartridge. Therefore the chance of a an error upon installation is higher than other models. So what we have decided to do is to include on this cartridge a chip which is compatible with the very latest firmware update. Therefore if you install the cartridge and the chip is not recognised we ask you to update the firmware on this printer model. Updating the firmware model will actually allow the cartridge to work in this instance.

Updated HP61 Cartridges

Starting in May 2012 HP changed the HP61 and 61XL ink cartridges. The updated cartridges are compatible with all printer models. The Cartridges available before May 2012 will not be compatible with some printers and MFP printers released in 2013.

Have a look at the link below from HP. It will show you how to distinguish between the old generation cartridge and the new one. http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?cc=au&lc=en&dlc=en&docname=c03370748

Ausjet Professional Colour 273XL Cartridges Coming Soon

Following on the release of the Ausjet 200XL the Ausjet 273XL series is on it's way. The Epson 273XL series is a five colour individual ink set using a pigment black and dye cyan, magenta, yellow and photo black inks. It's the first time Epson has released this 5 colour series with two black cartridges and it's a similar system to the Canon and HP individual tanks in that the pigment black is designed for text printing, while the photo black is designed for photographic or colour work with the colour dye inks.

The Ausjet 273 inkjet cartridges use a high quality dye series with bright and beautiful colours using high grade colorants from a highly respected German colourant company. These cartridges have 21mls of ink in each cartridge. The cartridges are suitable for the Epson XP-600, XP-700 and XP-800 printers.

Ausjet vs the Bunny!

Although we don't really promote our Ausjet cartridges as a refillable product. Seems one of our customers is having tremendous results.

News recently passed into my hands is that one customer has filled the Pgi-520 Cli-521 Ausjet series cartridges 20 times. It's a great testimony to the overall cartridge design and Sensient ink that is allowing these cartridges to just keep going on and on and on......

So I ask you who would win the Ausjet Cartridge or the Bunny? You know that Bunny, the one that is given a certain type of battery and keeps going on and on and on....

I hope this information has been helpful to you.

Changes to HP02 Refillable Cartridges

By on 15 March 2013 click here to comment

Important:

Recently we have been informed that our ever popular HP02 refillable cartridge series have been changed. The change prevents the chip from being reset and therefore prevents the product from being refilled. They can still be sold as a high capacity compatible cartridge.

The image below shows a picture of the new chip which is a half size chip and unable to be reset. Older versions of the cartridge with the full size chip can still be reset and refilled successfully

Good news:

We have sourced another range of refillable cartridges which is transparent, easy to fill and has an ARC chip. ARC (Auto reset chip) of this type resets the ink levels to full every time the cartridge is installed and the printer is turned on. So it eliminates the need for a resetter!

We also have have a great range of remanufactured HP02 cartridges available!

Ausjet Inkjet & Laser Supplies would like to take this opportunity to wish you a very happy and safe Christmas and hope that 2013 will prove to be your best year ever!

Thank you all for your support during 2012!

We are closing for a short break from close of business Friday 21st December and will be back on January 2nd 2013.

Statements were sent out earlier today & Sue (Accounts Dept.) would really appreciate your accounts being paid before the end of December., especially if you are closing and only coming back to work on the 7th January.

And the Grinch, with his Grinch-feet ice cold in the snow, stood puzzling and puzzling, how could it be so? It came without ribbons. It came without tags. It came without packages, boxes or bags. And he puzzled and puzzled 'till his puzzler was sore. Then the Grinch thought of something he hadn't before. What if Christmas, he thought, doesn't come from a store? What if Christmas, perhaps, means a little bit more?

Cefix Conference and Exhibition Zhuhai, China (Part 2)

Below is some thoughts and news from the CEFIX Conference and Tradeshow :

LED Laser Printers design

The advantage LED laser printers have over traditional laser printers is really the LPH (LED Print head). The LPH uses a self focussing lens and has no moving parts. The LPH rated reliability is 50,000 hours! This is one of the reasons Okidata offer a 3 year warranty as standard. They claim it's the best warranty available in the market place. It's been stated that with LPH technology higher resolutions and smaller dot sizes are possible .

A Mr Bobo Wang who works for Aetas technology has made it his life long goal to make the smallest highest quality printer. He believes he has achieved this and has further increased the technology and quality of the LPH. The other big advantage is that the cost of the LPH had been reduced to about $10 USD to manufacture.

Fuji-Xerox has also developed new advances with the technology and the word was that they will be licensing their technology to other manufacturers. Is seems the LED is the future replacement for laser printer because of lower manufacturing costs and an increase in quality and reliable. It is strange that the other big players have not signed up to LED which begs the question what do the OEM printer manufacturers have up their sleeves? What cards are they still yet to play? Time will tell.

Managed Print Services (MPS)

The buzz word is still 'managed print services' but at the conference they asked who had fully implemented this service. Their was only 5 hands out of about 200 attendees. The problem I have found over the years is that nobody is correctly explaining how it all works. It basically has come out of the copier industry and the most important word is 'service'. It incorporates a cost per page system but that is only half of what its all about. It's a system where you negotiate with the customer a cost per page based on the printers they have, this includes servicing the printer and providing the consumables.

Its a contract you agree with the customer and might include bringing in new printers or rearranging printers. It's not something you can get into overnight but the advantages can be tremendous for those that invest in it. It is typically aimed at multiple printer installations. From all accounts the OEM's are streets ahead in implementing this strategy. Those resellers that have customers will multiple installation should seriously consider how they are going to protect their business by beating the OEM's to the punch.

Worldwide General Printing Declining but is it our Silver Cloud

The reality is that general printing is declining as more and more previously printed magazines, books, advertising etc are now read in a digital format. But the good news is with the digital revolution more and more of the heavy industry is changing. As markets change it creates huge opportunities for those that are savvy and wish to look for the new markets. As we have mentioned on previous technical bulletins a lot of printing system which use to be analogue is changing to digital. New markets such as printing on different substrates, printing on consumer product etc are starting to boom. Every day we hear more and more new unique printing solutions coming to market.

One of the biggest markets is the barcoding and labelling industry. Sensient has a wide range of barcoding and coding inks available for these markets. We have access to these inks, if you have any enquires please contact us.

Smart Phones and Tablets

Recently I have seen an advertisement on television promoting the new iphone 5. The camera has the capability of capturing panoramic photos as you pan around the room. The advertisement then showed the panoramic print framed. This got me wondering, smart phone / tablet sales are really exploding and will this be a driving force for home printing again. It's obvious that printer manufacturers are making it easier to print direct from your smart phone / tablet to their latest printers.

Printing your emails direct from your phone, tablet, laptop computer to your printer with (Eprint) is another recent innovation that makes printing easy. You need an Eprint enabled printer which is a printer connected to the internet with a special dedicated email address. Send an email to the printers email address and it prints out automatically. You could be anywhere in the world and the pages would just print.

Every smart phone or tablet released has a in-built camera. The world has never had so many camera's in people's hands. But will the new advancements in technnology rejuvenate the home photo printing market? It's a question for those smarter than myself, but with anything if it's easy it's more likely people will use it.

OEMs Protecting Their Products

One of the OEM's at the conference gave a presentation on their approach to protecting their brand by removing counterfeit cartridges and patent-infringing products from the market place. They are also constantly investigating the misuse of their trademarks. It was a very interesting presentation in the sense that it's very important to see things from an OEM perspective.

They are well and truly active in purchasing cartridges from around the world to inspect for patent-infringing or counterfeit use. A common way they do this is to order products from a number of sources including online stores. With more and more industry news related to patent-infringing products and trademark issues it's important to be aware!

How to Become a Famous Chef Overnight

During our stay in Zhuhai we discovered a a nice western style restaurant area along the river. We heard rave reviews about an authentic Italian restaurant in the same area. Accompanied by another Australian we headed out to dinner for some authentic Italian pizza in 'China'.
After the dinner the owner of the business approached Dermot and asked him if he was this world famous Chef. Apparently they had seen him the day before and had been curious ever since. A double life or a coincidence I will let you decide!

Cefix Conference and Exhibition Zhuhai, China (Part 1)

During the days of the 23rd to the 27th of September Dermot Murtagh (the big cheese) and I attended the CEFIX conference, CEFIX Trade Show and afterwards took time to visit a number of manufacturing factories. We attended these events to

• Educate ourselves and network with other buyers and suppliers

• Research industry trends

• Find solutions for remanufacturing problems

• Learn about new cartridges which will hit the market soon.

• Discuss Important points with our manufacturers

• Visit factories to inspect quality procedures.

Our first call of port was the Conference on the 23rd which was a one day event featuring presentations from the following industry leaders:

Art Diamond (Diamond Research Corporation)
Dr Edul N. Dalal (Xerox Fellow, Xerox Corporation)
Andrew Gardner (Worldwide Brand Protection Manager, Lexmark)
Dr Xiaoying Rong (California Polytechynic State University)
Jan de Kesel (In-Map) Bobo Wang (Aetas Technology – new LED printer technology)
Kennard S Cloud (Pantum – Worldwide Product Manager)
Denny Henger (CCID Consulting – Deputy General Manager)

From the 24th to 26th September we attended the

CEFIX Trade Show

For the 6th year running Remax Asia Pacific's annual international trade show for the cartridge remanufacturing industry broke previous records. The Zhuhai event attracted almost 10,000 visitors from 85 countries around the globe. There were 425 exhibitors at the massive Zhuhai Airshow Centre which was located 2-2.5 hours away by shuttle bus depending on traffic which at times was horrific.

The general concensus from visitors and manufacturers was that it wasn't as good as previous years. I was surprised to hear there was nearly 10,000 attendees as it seemed less crowded than in previous years. A lot of the exhibitors also mentioned that it wasn't as busy as the previous year. Which made me think that next time I will have to look out for that one visitor that visited the show 3000 times! I have this image in my mind of a guy walking in and out of the show constantly for three days. Stranger things have happened in this world!

Zhuhai and other nearby cities are considered the worlwide epi-centre of the aftermarket consumables industry. You could spend a lot of time in this area visiting the hundreds of factories related to the printer consumables industry.

New Cartridges

Canon has released new individual inkjet ink cartridges in the USA. We expect them here shortly. The model numbers in the USA are

550 Bk (15mls) 551 C, M, Y, GY, BK (7ml per cartridge)

550XL Bk (22mls)

551XL C, M, Y, GY, BK (11ml per cartridge)

It also has a change in design with the chip it now uses a FCB (flexible circuit board) rather than a PCB (printed circuit board).

In previous technical bulletins we mentioned about the new Epson XP Inkjet Printers that had been released in Japan. They have been now released in Australia and the cartridge models are : 200 Bk, C, M, Y 200XL Bk, C, M, Y 273 Bk, C, M, Y, PBK 273XL Bk, C, M, Y, PBK

The entry level printer Expression Home XP-100 starts at RRP $69.00

I had a quick look at these new 200 and 273 cartridges in China. They have a unique outlet port which is a rubber membrane, ink is held within the cartridge but once the membrane is touched ink passes through it.

Chips and Chip Resetters

With chip technology and firmware updates becoming part and part of this industry. We are always on the look out for resetting solutions for OEM cartridges. When this solution isn't available we need to provide the most stable and firmware change resistant chips we can provide.

We are currently investigating new chip resetting solutions. Recently we have just released our Canon 3 in 1 chip resetter which resets compatible and OEM chips for the Generation 1,2 and 3 canon chips (5,8s,520,521s,525,526s).

We also have the stick on chips for PG37/40/50/510/512 and CL38/41/511/513 cartridges. The only solution for Australian New Zealand region for restoring the ink levels and improving remanufactured cartridge compatibility on these models.

We are currently investigating other unique solutions.

Booths

We spent three full days visiting the booths and discussing various new products. We always believe quality is our highest priority and we do go the extra mile and are always looking for ways to continually improve our products and find new innovative solutions. During November and December we hope to release many new products that are currently under lock and key.

A Miracle in Zhuhai

Zhuhai is a warm city at the best of times. But on one particular day at the CEFIX it seemed that the air-conditioning was on the blink. It was extremely unpleasant for all and even the locals were struggling and starting to wither! Towards the end of the day I was really starting to feel it, no amount of water seemed to quench the thirst.

At first I thought it was a mirage, between the many exhibitors I spotted something. Could it be true? It was one of the most beautiful things I had ever seen. Maybe it was my dehydrated weary state but I thought I could see 'cold beer on tap'. But Yes! It was true a booth with cold beer on tap. We can tell you it went down well, the Belgium guy on the bar stool next to me seemed also to be enjoying it. By his demeanour I could see he had being settled for a while.

Look out for Part 2 of this Technical Bulletin on Thursday the 8th of November.
