Replacement Chips for Canon PGI-650XL/651XL Now Available

By on 25 March 2014 click here to comment

We know everybody is looking for a resetter for the Canon Pgi-650 and Cli-651 cartridges. But at this time one is not available and it's really hard to forecast when one will be available. The information we are receiving from a number of companies working on the resetter is that it's not an easy project and they are still working on it.

Knowing this we have decided to offer the following replacement chips until a reliable and suitable resetter is available. The OEM chip is on a flexible circuit board which is a new design as previously they have just used a standard PCB board. The Ausjet Chip uses a thin PCB board which is designed to replace the flexible circuit board of the OEM.

Before you decide on purchasing the following chips we recommend you read these instuctions on how to install the replacement chip on the OEM cartridge.

Technical Bulletin Remax Tradeshow 13'

By on 29 October 2013 click here to comment

Outside the combined Remax Asia and Iprint trade shows at the aircentre in Zhuhai China. From this photo you can get an idea of the sheer size of the show. This photo was taken just after the show was closed.

Looking out the hotel window I can see the seaside port of Zhuhai. That's right this technical bulletin is coming to you direct from the home of the Remax Asia Pacific and iprint trade shows in Zhuhai China which was was held on the 17th - 19th October 2013.

Many years ago when I first started in the cartridge industry the thought never entered my mind that one day China would be the epicentre of the industry. The first trade show that I attended was at Manly in Sydney. This show was held by industry legend Art Diamond(Recharger Magazine) in association with ACRA (Australian cartridge remanufacturing association). They were great days and I know a lot of people miss them (hint hint anybody listening)

What has got me thinking about the tradeshow in Manly is that I once again I had a brief encounter with Art Diamond at the Remax Asia pacific trade show. I wonder if he ever thought at that time that he would be at a trade show in China for the industry that he helped him prosper through his magazines and trade shows.

One of around 400 booths inside the Remax Asia Pacific and Iprint trade shows.

Remax Asia Pacific

The Remax Asia Pacific and the iprint trade show is located at the airport centre about 40 minutes outside of town. It's quite a pleasant drive to the airport centre from the main city as the highway follows the sea and farmlands. I would expect any travel in a foreign country would be of more interest than your daily drive. But the drive from the city to the Airshow Centre is actually quite a nice seaside drive.

The organisers of the Remax Trade Show have really done a great job. Transportation to and from the show was by a convenient shuttle bus which picked up from a list of hotels. The shuttle bus service was kindly donated by a major sponsor of the tradeshow. Last years extensive road works caused a lot of headaches for commuters. This time it was much smoother and quicker.

Another thing that was a surprise was how more observant drivers were of the road rules. When I first visited china a few years ago I was curious if cars were equipped with indicators because we never saw anyone using them!! Now it is a lot better all round.

The weather was also very nice. Jeans and a shirt were comfortable both during the day and at night which was in stark contrast to last year where at times the heat was excessive and we nearly melted away. The airport venue though comfortably sized is dated. Dodgy toilets, no WI-FI and lots of tricky floor cables to avoid. Next year they move to a brand new complex in town surrounded by upmarket hotels. Yaaayyy!!!!

Manufacturers of these products were at the Remax and Iprint

  • Compatible inkjet & toner manufacturers
  • Remanufactured inkjet & toner Cartridges
  • Chip manufacturers - chip resetters - chip testers
  • Ink & toner manufacturers
  • Ink & toner raw materials suppliers
  • Refillable cartridges
  • Bottle manufactures
  • Toner and copier parts manufacturers
  • Coated paper manufactures
  • CISS (Continuous Ink Supply System)
  • Wide format cartridges
  • 3D Printers and flex suppliers.
  • Wide format printers
  • Desktop Printers.

We spent two full days visiting the booths and discussing various new products. We always believe quality is our highest priority and we do go the extra mile and are always looking for ways to continually improve our products and find new innovative solutions. We attend these events to :

  • Educate ourselves and network with other buyers and suppliers
  • Research industry trends
  • Find solutions for remanufacturing problems
  • Learn about new cartridges which will hit the market soon.
  • Discuss important points with our manufacturers

What we discovered at the Remax and Iprint Show

Smartbox Programmers and Resetters

A number of companies are now starting to offer resetting solutions in a smartbox form. Not only can you reset the aftermarket chips and blanks available from the smartbox company but you can also reset an increasing number of OEM cartridges. The advantage of these systems is that you can always program the latest software version into your aftermarket chip before installing on the cartridge. This is very useful with cartridges where printer firmware updates cause problems with the aftermarket chip.

The cost of programming a chip or resetting a chip is also lower than installing a new chip. Savings range from 20%. The costing processworks like a prepaid mobile phone where you buy credits and each reset or reprogram costs a certain amount of credits.

The range of cartridges usable with these systems are increasing each year and this makes these type of systems more suitable now than ever before for cartridge remanufacturers. The need to carry stock for a large range of cartridges has been negated.

One of many exhibitors displaying their 3D printers. This one is unique as the print file can be inserted via a USB disk rather than needed to be connected to a computer.

3D Printers

There must have been +/- fifteen booths exhibiting 3D printers and related products (mostly flex-consumables) at the tradeshow. These printers are unique in that they are able to print plastic layer upon layer to build up a 3D object. It is truly amazing to see these in operation and we are still researching the potential markets. We hope to bring you more detailed information about these printers in the future. Prices seem to be coming down to around US$1000-US$2500 for the smaller units but pricing as always is usually dictated by features offered.

Believe it or not this is a plastic shoe printed with a top of the line 3D printer. This photo does not truly represent the high detail represented in this print(Model).

HP Filling Machines

A new low cost automated filling machine for the HP564/920/932/950 series cartridges which can fill a set of cartridges at once or individually is now available. We have organised samples for testing as we need to test the durability and accuracy of the machine to see if it's suitable for professional day to day filling. Upon completion of testing more information will be available for this product. These products could also be retailed to end users by resellers

Canon PGI-650/651 Resetter

I really was hoping that there would be better news about this product, but all information I am receiving is that these resetters won't be available until early next year.

Unique printing on phone cases for the Ausjet Flatbed Printers

We were briefly introduced to an exciting new development for use with our Ausjet Flatbed Printer. It's a unique print style that will certainly distinguish mobile phone cases printed with our system than others on the market. The ink is all new, although I don't want to mention too much about it as it's still in the development stage but once it becomes closer to reality we will keep you all informed.

The lighter side....

So I know you have heard about Murphys law, but how about Murtaghs law?

It's a point that Dermot Murtagh (aka El Capitan) my travelling companion mentioned yesterday, which is why on the last day in the last hour we always find something new and unique at these tradeshows? The number of times this has happened is extraordinary. Makes you think maybe we should just turn up for the last hour.

Yesterday we were looking for a particular product and no matter which exhibitor we asked they couldn't help us. We were still looking as the booths were being dissasembled or smashed apart in some cases. Dermot was a little tired and needed a nice red wine to end the day. Then he got started talking to another gentleman and you wouldn't have guessed it but he knew Dermot from many years ago and knew everything about the product we were looking for!
So from now on everybody write it down, 'Murtagh's law: When something good or unexpected is found at the very last moment of the day after you have being searching all bloody day for it'.

What's happening at floor 1?

If you are  a frequent reader of these bulletins. You may remember a few years ago I had an issue with a lift in a hotel that behaved in a way to make me believe it had a mind of it's own. It looks like I have found its twin in my hotel here in Zhuhai. Twice the lift has stopped at level 1 for no apparant reason and both times the doors have opened to a dark floor with no lighting. Really freaky! The lift closes and I continue wondering what may have happened if I had stepped out onto level 1? Sounds like an episode of the twilight zone!!

I hope this information has been useful to you.

HP Releases White Paper to Aftermarket Chip Manufacturers

HP has released information to the aftermarket chip manufacturers explaining how important it is that their chips are not recognised in printers as a genuine product. In the white paper HP explains the correct programming required for current aftermarket chips and future model chips which HP will release in 2014. The information supplied by HP is to ensure that aftermarket chips are not recognised as the original chip.

It's a further reminder to everybody selling remanufactured or compatible cartridges that it is important not to misrepresent the cartridge. Not that any of us are doing this but it's important to check the wording we all use and understand the OEM copyright and trademarks.

For those remanufacturing be sure to remove any original branding from the cartridge including any moulded into the cartridge. It's very important that the end user may never interpret the cartridge as something it is not.

The Ausjet difference with remanufactured printhead type inkjet cartridges

Ausjet has a unique advantage over other brands of remanufactured printhead type inkjet cartidges. That advantage is that the following cartridges have a complimentary chip installed which allows the cartridge to be accepted in more printers and registers full of ink. Without this chip the cartridge will register low on ink and will require a override or may not register at all in some printer or fax models.

The Ausjet remanufactured cartridges with the complimentary chip are :

Canon
PG37
CL38
PG40
CL41
PG510
CL511
PG512
CL513

HP
60 Black
60 Colour
61 Black

702 Black
901 Black

Important information regarding filling of Brother LC-133/135/137 Cartridges

In June this year we purchased a brother MFC J4510DW printer which we required for testing. The cartridges that suit this printer are the first inkjet cartridges from Brother that use a chip on them. We were very interested to see how the chip works with these printers, investigate filling methods and test print the recommended inks from Sensient.

We had also just received a sample resetter for these cartridges and wished to test this as well. To our great surprise for the life of us we could not work out what the chip is actually doing. I will tell you why because once we filled the cartridges and then installed the cartridge was detected as full of ink again and off it went. I must admit I was surprised as every other type of chip technology we had previously seen prevented the reuse of the cartridge.

So I thought let's now test the resetter, so I printed all of the ink out of the cartridge until the out of ink message appeared. I then reset the chip on the cartridge with the resetter and installed it in the printer. The printer still detected the cartridge as empty!

So why did a company bother to make a resetter if one was not required? I asked the manufacturer this question and they were as surprised as I was. They did mention that other regions did require this resetter and that the cartridge could not be filled without being reset.

Still to this day our printer is working fine and the cartridges have been used numerous times without a need for resetting. It's obvious that this printer still uses the same optical type sensor as previous Brother models. The chip does not seem to be used as an anti-filling device.

Since that time we have had many other customers filling these types of cartridges without any problems.

But it doesn't all seem rosy as one of our customers did experience a problem with one of his customers. Is this just the one anomaly? I really can't tell you. All we can say is that 95% of customers that have refilled these cartridges have done it successfully and the printer recognises full ink levels and functions normally for its complete print life.

The cartridges we refilled using our brother refill tools ver.2 and the correct Sensient ink to use is :

B5010 Black
B5020 Cyan
B5021 Magenta
B5022 Yellow

If you have been successful or have any more information regarding the above we would love to hear from you.

New Brother Inkjet Cartridges

Brother has just released two new models of printer cartridges. The LC-131 and LC-139 cartridges which should be a very similar design to the above mentioned (LC-133/135/137) cartridges. This is a calculated guess as they fit in many of the same printer models.

More information will be available on these cartridges soon. Stay tuned!

It all happened with a blurrrrrr

Looking out the window I noticed a white blur out of the corner of my eye. It was the cartridge stig with his bright cyan helment gleaming in the sunlight. With a grinning smile he flicked the latest industry tip our way. The next moment he was gone like a 'chocolate after a four week diet' muttering something about a new clutch! When will we see him again I really don't know. But once again we must thank you Cartridge Stig whoever you are!

Tip :
TN2250 or TN2030 cartridge not recognised in HL-2130/2132 printer after the starter cartridge has expired

Steps to correct this.
1) Turn off the printer.
2) Open front door where toner and drum go in.
3) Turn printer on holding down GO button.
4) When all lights are on let go of the GO button and then press two times and release.
5) When all lights are lit except "ready" press the GO button 7 times(TN2250) or 5 times(TN2030) and release.
6)  Wait for lights to go out and only the ERROR button should be lit.
7) Close the front door and the problem should be solved.

Thank you Mr Eduardo

Many a month ago we had the privelige to be invited and to exhibit our products to a select group of customers. During that time it was a great pleasure to to have a chat with a man named Eduardo and his lovely wife. After the dinner Eduardo set the dance floor on fire with his suave dance moves. By the way I posted it on youtube, I hope you don't mind! The rumour is it's a big hit with a very select audience! So here you go Eduardo I told you I would get you in the technical bulletin.

By the way what did you mean the best things about my technical bulletins are that they end well?

I hope this information has been helpful to you.

Ausjet LC-137XL BK/135XL CMY Cartridges Arriving Soon

We are just putting the finishing touches on the design of the packaging for this new series. These are the first Brother inkjet cartridges that include a chip on the cartridge. The cartridges are designed for the Brother DCP-J4110DW, MFC-J4410DW, MFC-J4510DW and MFC-J4710DW MFP's.

These printers are unique in that they have a small footprint for a A3 capable MFP. This arrangement means that the A4 paper sits opposite to how you would expect.

Thoughts about Multi-pack sets for the Ausjet Cartridge Range

Recently we have had a few enquiries about retail multi-packs for our Ausjet Cartridge Series. We are certainly in the process of looking into this, but we would also like to hear from our customers on what is the best combination of cartridges. For example do we create a multipack with one black and one of each of the colours or two blacks and one each of the colours. Also what cartridge numbers are customers most likely to order in a mult-pack rather than in singles.

We would love to hear some feedback from you regarding this matter and together maybe we can create a unique solution that can benefit all of us.

Update to Software for the Ausjet Flatbed Printer Now Available

If you are one of our customers using the new Ausjet Flatbed Printer we have just released a new software update that adds a number of new requested features. Please contact us for the link to download the new version.

We are also in the process of arranging cases for the Note II and S4 Phones. These new products we hope to bring to you shortly.

If you would like further information about the Ausjet Flatbed Printer click here to view a quick video. It's an exciting new product that allows you to print on smartphone cases, puzzles, badges, canvas board etc

Changes to the Design of Stick on chips for PG510/CL511/PG40 and CL41 Cartridges

I always believed that these chips were a true breakthrough for the industry. Never before had we being able to reset/restore the ink levels of printhead based inkjet cartridges. By installing a chip on these cartridges not only were we able to increase the ease of use for the customer but we were also able to increase the list of printers that the cartridges were able to be used in.

Like 'sands in the hourglass' time always moves on and the good news is that the design of these chips is being improved. They will be a little more awkward to install as they require some soldering but the benefit is you won't have any concerns about the chip lifting from the cartridge. We are also looking at a solution that will allow the chip to be reset/restored time and time again so you won't need to replace the chip each time.

Price reduction on Replacement Chips

We understand that the margins shrink a lot for remanufacturing inkjet cartridges when you need to install a new chip. That's why we made the decision to cut the prices on our replacement chips to as low a cost as we can.

As we are all aware probably the biggest annoyance for our customers is when they need to do a lengthy override procedure to even get their cartridges to work. That's why we offer replacement chips to eliminate this problem where possible and with the new reduced prices we hope the decision to install or not to install a chip is now a no brainer.

Improvements to the design of the Ausjet HP932/933 and HP950/951 Cartridges

In life we all constantly aim to improve and I know you're probably thinking some need more improving than others!! Wait! Hang on, Why do I get the feeling that you think I'm talking about myself. I am actually talking about our HP932/933 and HP950/951 cartridges that have some minor gremlins that we wish to eradicate. The reality is these cartridges are quite complex to manufacture and master due to their unique design.

But we pride ourselves on offering the best quality aftermarket cartridges for our customers so we are always looking to improve our products. We have discussed the gremlins with our manufacturer in great detail. They are now working on an improved version of these cartridges to meet our exacting standards. Stay tuned for further information!

Chip resetter for PGI-650\CLI-651 Cartridges

I would love to say 'yes' we have these resetters available now as we know that everybody WANTS one. We expect to hear some good news sooner rather than later regarding their release. One thing we can tell you is once we know they are available and we are pleased with the test results on Australian models you will be the first to know.

I hope this information has been helpful to you.
